Related Services
Related services are the extra supports that help a child with special needs benefit fully from early intervention or school programs. They don’t replace teaching—they support it.
The related services VHS offer are :
- Speech–language therapy – Helps with communication, understanding, and speaking.
- Occupational therapy (OT) – Helps with fine motor skills, daily activities, and sensory needs.
- Physical therapy (PT) – Improves strength, balance, and movement.
- Behavioural services – Supports social skills, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour.
- Transportation services – Helps children get to school or therapy safely.
- Psychological services – Includes assessments, counselling, and learning support.
- Medical or health-related services – Simple medical supports needed during the school day (not full medical care).
- Social work services – Helps families access resources and manage challenges.
- Assistive technology – Tools like communication devices, adapted seating, or specialized learning equipment.
These services work together to help the child learn, communicate, move, and participate more independently.
